Since the formation of the Lions Clubs, Helen Keller named the Lions KNIGHTS OF THE BLIND. This was due to the fact that Lions Club across North America did a great deal of fundraising for the bling through several programs, including inhouse draws.
One of the most successful programs to assist the visually impaired is the WALK FOR DOG GUIDES. Through the walk, funds are raised to pay for the purchase and training of Dog Guides, through which the Lions Foundation of Canada provide free service dogs for those in need. Dogs are trained to assist with many disabilities such as sight, hearing, diabetic service, autism, and seizure response support.
The cost of the dogs is fully funded by Lions Clubs of Canada, with no government assistance. The North Rustico Lions Club has consistently conducted fundraising for this program. Thanks to the generosity of the public, we sponsored at least 8 Dog Guides for those in need.
The North Rustico Lions Club has sponsored the construction of a new kennel for the training facility in Oakville Ontario. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our community. For this, we sincerely thank you and look forward to continuing support for this project.
